First, I am proud to announce my latest publication in Lucid Journal’s Issue 5, Bodies. Lucid is ran from my alma mater, University of California, Irvine, by and supporting first gen students. First gen, for Lucid, refers to students who are the first in their families to graduate college. I am a first gen student, being the first to graduate and the very first woman in my family’s entire history to attend any college or university. I was so excited to get this publication, not only because it is a publication I deeply respect, but it represents my first feminist horror-memoir work to be published!

My piece, “Inheritance,” stands in good company with work from some amazing sources of inspiration. Lucid Journal’s Instagram post on Bodies draws attention to a UCI PhD candidate in criminology, Ryan “Flaco” Rising, who “recounts in prose the development of his prison traumatic stress disorder within the violent world of the California prison system.” Also, “photography from and about the 2% Black student population of UCI” and an “incredible graphic story about the loss and shame of the border immigration experience.” Along with articles by UCI current and former professors, Lucid states the work comes “from first gen undergraduates and recent grads along with first gen California Community College students from Orange Coast, Santa Ana, and Irvine Valley College.” Check out my piece but, seriously, the work here is challenging and exciting in the best ways and you really should read all of it.

Second, let me express my incredible excitement about my newly launched blog, The Neurodiverse Gastronome! It is a blog entirely dedicated to my love of food that spans dining, recipes, urban farming, canning, and more. So, please check it out and subscribe if you like my work, like food, or just find me to be hilariously great company (LOL).
